I agree. Love the barrel, love the golf ball dimples but the gold is TERRIBLE. It’s ‘nasty cheap’ gold colour. No one can be perfect.

( years old, and htis is still THE review folks considering this pne should read. This combination of pen and nib is superb, and will take/tolerate hard but respectful use. MY experience improved with the substitution of the well-known replacement nib out of Texas. Fro the costs, it can't be beaten.

So what year is/was this pen made? I’d like to search for one 2nd hand.

How has it held up? I'm hesitant to buy a pen where the majority of the body is made from clear plastic (probably ABS), as clear plastic is inherently more brittle than opaque plastics due to the manufacturing process, which can lead to stress fractures over time. Also, how is the line thickness variation - if any?

I ordered the 743 with a medium fine nib, the seller accidentally sent me one with an FA nib. Of course I had to ink it up and try it, and of course I’m keeping it, even though I did not want a flex type nib. It’s soft and springy, love the huge #15 nib, and though I agree that the 742 (size 10 nib) is a great pen if you want to spend less, I just like the larger nib. But now, of course, I still need the pen I originally wanted, a 743 with the medium fine nib.

Too expensive for that nib quality; that is why I prefer German and Japanese pens

My biggest purchase disappointment so far; absolutely lacking adequate ink flow when it comes to note-taking writing pace. And i got two of those, and both were having the same inadequate ink flow capacity. Sad this is not highlighted in all those videos around. I can accept it’s a nice looking pen, though.

The massive presentation boxes are to be expected considering the prices of the pens but horribly wasteful at the same time. Put it in a modest box and cut $35 off the price.

Thank you for your knowledgeable explanation of the nib and why there are so many negative comments. When mine arrives, it seems like just slower writing and it should keep up for western script. Blessings and aloha!

I just bought this 912 (FA) for drawing purposes and i hate it, haha. I love my metal falcon SEF and this one just felt cheap by comparison, but it cost way more after having to get an ebonite feed for it. I can see why people who enjoy writing/calligraphy would like it as it's soft for flexing, but the only use I have for it is if i want a really thick outline. I much prefer my fpr ambassador with EF flex for 200 bucks less.
